Example Cattle Per Acre Calculation
Suppose a producer has:

First calculate total forage:
100 × 3,000 = 300,000 pounds
Next adjust for 50% forage utilization:
300,000 × 0.50 = 150,000 pounds of usable forage
Each cow requires:
30 × 120 = 3,600 pounds of forage during the grazing period

150,000 ÷ 3,600 = 41.67
Based on these assumptions, the pasture has enough usable forage for approximately 41 cattle for the 120-day grazing period when rounding down conservatively.
